DESCRIPTION
The Tempo Camarillo (formerly RIFOCS) Rainbow DWDM test system performs comprehensive wavelength and optical loss characterization on a variety of passive fiber optic components. It has been optimized to target the 1xN DWDM demultiplexer market, but can be easily configured to test simplex and in-line devices as well. The system available from Garwood Laboratories is a 1x40 channel count. The Rainbow system uses a precision New Focus 6428 C-Band tunable laser to generate very narrow linewidth input test signals, while high speed photodetectors monitor the output power of the device under test. The Rainbow system also includes a polarization controller for precision PDL measurements. A closed loop passive wavelength reference provides realtime calibration data for excellent accuracy and repeatability.
The following measurements are calculated from the wavelength scans:
-
Bandwidth
-
Crosstalk
-
Insertion Loss
-
Peak and Center Wavelengths (adjacent and non-adjacent channels)
-
Passband Ripple
-
Polarization Dependant Loss (PDL)
-
Waveshape
Typical components qualified include:
- DWDM Multiplexers and Demultiplexers
- DWDM Fiber Bragg Gratings
- Filters
- Add/Drop Multiplexers
- Inline Isolators
- Inline Optical Attenuators, Variable Optical Attenuators
- Couplers
